Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating condition caused by exposure to an extreme traumatic event or prolonged stress. The experience that caused PTSD may feel like a permanent scar on the brain that doesn't heal on its own. PTSD can follow any event in which a person felt intense fear, helplessness, or horror.
Panic Disorder involves recurrent, unexpected panic attacks — sudden surges of intense fear that peak within minutes, with physical symptoms such as heart pounding, shortness of breath, dizziness, and fear of losing control or dying. Between attacks, people with Panic Disorder often develop persistent worry about future attacks and may avoid situations associated with panic.

PTSD and Panic Disorder are both highly treatable with evidence-based approaches. For PTSD, Trauma-Focused CBT, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Prolonged Exposure Therapy are highly effective. For Panic Disorder, CBT with interoceptive exposure produces excellent results. Dr. Henry Srednicki also specializes in Betrayal Trauma recovery.
