Just Right OCD is a subtype of obsessive–compulsive disorder in which the primary distress comes from a powerful internal sense that things feel “off,” “incomplete,” or “not quite right.” Instead of fearing a specific danger or catastrophic outcome, individuals with Just Right OCD are driven by an overwhelming need to correct, adjust, repeat, or align actions, sensations, or objects until they achieve a fleeting sense of internal “rightness.”
This can involve repeating movements, re‑reading or re‑writing, arranging items symmetrically, or mentally reviewing experiences to make them feel complete. The discomfort is often described as tension, irritation, or an internal itch that won’t resolve until the compulsion is performed.
ERP therapy helps reduce reliance on these rituals by teaching individuals to tolerate the feeling of “not just right” and break the cycle of compulsive correction.
